Mille Miglia Eligible Cars for Sale
The Mille Miglia, or "Thousand Miles", is historically a famous race car event which took place in Italy from 1927 to 1957. The event was resurrected in 1977 and is now run as a traditional race for classic, vintage, and rare cars.
Mille Miglia Eligible Cars
Mille Miglia eligible cars are the vehicle types that were manufactured no later than 1957. At least one specimen of each model must have taken part in one of these historical races, or at least completed registration formalities.
Mille Miglia Eligible Cars and the Mille Miglia
Mille Miglia eligible cars are organised by their starting slots with the smaller, slower displacement cars going first. Since 1949, Mille Miglia eligible cars were assigned numbers which correspond to their start time. For example, in the 1955 race, Francesco Giardini entered with a Maserati A6GCS/53, registered as #621, and therefore left the start line in Brescia at 06:21. He finished in 4th place.
Mille Miglia Eligible Cars -- Very Important Models/Makes
Mille Miglia eligible cars have featured a variety of models and makes. It is important to carefully choose the right vehicle to enter the race. There are around 375 slots so eligibility will factor on the number of applicants and the type of vehicle. Manufacturers are big sponsors so it may not be wise to enter a Gullwing, or a BMW 328 or 507. Best to steer clear from other tough entries such as the Lacia Aurelias or the Alfa Giuliettas. It's good to enter a pre-war car, better if it's a relatively rare and significant car, and best if the car ran the Mille Miglia "in-period".
Mille Miglia eligible cars from Alfa Romeo can include the 1938 6C 2300 B MM Spider Touring or the 1949 6C 2500 SS Cabriolet Pinin Farina. Mille Miglia eligible cars from Ferrari include such models as the 1950 195 S Barchetta Touring or the 1955 750 Monza Spider Scaglietti. Maserati is another popular choice which includes Mille Miglia eligible cars such as the 1928 Tipo 26 B MM or the 1955 300 S Spider Fantuzzi. Consider, perhaps, the Mille Miglia eligible cars from Mercedes-Benz which include such models as the 1931 720 SSKL or the 1956 SC 180 Coupe. Finally, Mille Miglia eligible cars from Porsche are the 1954 550 Spyder RS, the 1956 356 1500 GS Carrera, or the 1957 356 A 1600.
